The Chinese alumni included on this page were more diverse in background, career trajectory, and life experience than the other three cohorts, though most of them also had personal connections with those groups. They also appeared to be the most active on campus and in town, perhaps attempting to cast a wider net to compensate for the lack of established networks or strong ties. In any case, their experiences were no less dynamic and rich than those of the alumni of Nankai, Tsing Hua, or Grinnell-in-China cohorts, though their stories also posed unique challenges to recover. Without a doubt, there are gaps and inconsistencies in all the life experiences of Grinnell’s earlier Chinese alumni that await further exploration and study.
